International Information of the MLPD

MLPD, Monika Gärtner-Engel Internationalism Secretary of the Central Committee,

Dear comrades, friends and colleagues,

In Germany the political fermentation process with over seven million people participating in struggles in 2024 has taken on a new quality since the late summer with the intervention of the industrial proletariat. Class consciousness is awakening on a broad front. The progressive change of mood is increasingly coming to the fore again. At the same time, the fascist AfD was able to gain further influence, and the confusion among the masses has not been dissolved. In this situation, it is the task of the MLPD to organize the struggle over the mode of thinking on a massive scale, to intensify consciousness raising, to embed a social alternative with genuine socialism. The potential for revolutionaries and the transition to class struggle in the true sense are increasing.

At the beginning of the week 100,000 colleagues at Volkswagen in Germany went on strike for wage increases and against the planned elimination of thousands of jobs, wage cuts and further attacks by the company top management against workers and employees. At the same time, protests and actions are taking place in steel and other automotive companies. This has not happened in decades and is very explosive in the midst of a turbulent situation in all of society. The monopolies have decided to force through a reactionary development of society as a whole. To this end, they provocatively terminated the policy of class collaboration practiced in Germany for decades. At the same time, they called for the end of the SPD-Green-FDP government (so-called “Ampel” or “traffic light”) with its remnants of a social policy orientation. This government promptly collapsed, creating an open political crisis. In the midst of the world economic and financial crisis, which is even deepening after six years, new elections (to parliament) will take place at the beginning of next year. The working class and the masses are stirred up and increasingly politicized and are looking more and more for a societal alternative.

We observe that we have become more anchored among an increasing minority, especially among the workers, but also among the broad masses. On this basis, the MLPD was able to collect tens of thousands of signatures for the election registration on complicated forms in a very short time. 35,000 signatures mean hundreds of thousands of conversations, primarily to give socialism new esteem! So we had huge numbers of discussions, including deep conversations about capitalism as the cause of the whole crisis-chaos and genuine socialism as a way out. We established contacts and spread literature. At the same time the social polarization is expressed in the further rightward development, the promotion but also increased popularity of the fascist AfD. We do not underestimate that nationalist and fascist agitation and demagogy are also gaining influence among parts of the working people, but experience also shows how the offensive and patient argumentation can change the mode of thinking among the masses. The struggles of the industrial workers make a significant contribution to this; they put the class contradiction at the center and self-confidence about the organized strength of the working class is growing.

The MLPD is committing its forces and knowledge to the path of the working-class offensive. You have received a translation of a flyer that we are distributing widely. We are strengthening international working-class unity against the division caused by regional or national “defense of the local industrial site” and the nationalist agitation of the right-wing forces and fascists!

Let us strengthen the ICOR and the United Front!

Let us mobilize and organize the preparation of the 4th International Automotive Workers' Conference in India in 2025 together!

Support the establishment of contacts and cooperation in the automotive and steel corporations worldwide!

International messages of solidarity can be forwarded through us to the struggling workers, especially in the steel and automotive industries, and are very important for fighting morale – thank you very much for that!

With militant, revolutionary greetings,

Monika Gärtner-Engel
