Solidarity with the mass protests in Turkey! Strengthen the antifascist and revolutionary tendency! Fight fascism everywhere!
The recent events in Turkey are another example of the extent of power centralization in the fascist state under the leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his AKP, in alliance with the MHP. The arrest and suspension of Istanbul's Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, as well as many other CHP representatives and mayors, illustrate the fascist aggression of the regime, which does not even spare the bourgeois opposition and parts of the bourgeoisie.
The fascist Turkish state pursues a war policy against the Kurdish freedom movement and its legitimate demands. It overrides elected local governments with appointed trustees and arrests massive numbers of socialist, revolutionary, and democratic forces. At the same time, it attacks both the workers' movement and the militant women's movement, systematically dismantling the remaining democratic rights in the country. Meanwhile, it conducts expansionist occupation wars, in which the peoples of the region are declared targets.
The mass demonstrations against the AKP-MHP government are increasing. The government is reacting even more aggressively to maintain its power. This conflict within the bourgeoisie will not end here; it will also spread to certain factions of the ruling class. The biggest victim of the power struggle will be the people. On the day of the mass arrests alone, the people, who are already condemned to live below the poverty line, became 3% poorer. This is a sign of what is yet to come.
İmamoğlu's arrest was the decisive moment that caused the situation to reach a boiling point. Also the call by the strongest bourgeois opposition party, the CHP, for its supporters to take to the streets to “demand the release of Turkey’s next president, Ekrem İmamoğlu”, triggered nationwide mass protests. Despite a de facto state of emergency and bans on gatherings, the protests could not be stopped.
However, the demands of parts of the mass movement go far beyond İmamoğlu’s release. It is a call for the end of the fascist dictatorship, supported by strike calls from workers and trade unions, boycotts, and in the forefront the determined actions of the youth in universities and on the streets. The antifascist anger is also finding its own way onto the streets. When the power struggle between the cliques of the ruling class has released the pent-up anger of the people against the system, then revolutionaries must be part of this movement. They must consciously spread the perspective of a world without imperialism, for socialism.
The ICOR calls on all revolutionary, democratic, and progressive forces to decisively stand up to fascism and strengthen solidarity with the antifascist forces in the mass protests in Turkey!
The developments in Turkey and worldwide show that fascism is becoming an ever-greater threat to the masses and is linked to the general war preparations of the imperialist powers. Antifascist resistance must be organized! All revolutionary, democratic, and progressive forces must unite and resolutely fight against fascism. The mobilization of the working class is crucial for the antifascist mass movement!
The ICOR supports the antifascist forces in the current mass movement in Turkey for an end of the fascist dictatorship and demands the immediate release of political prisoners, the lifting of fascist bans and all laws that label anyone who opposes the current regime as terrorist, the declaration of an immediate ceasefire by the Turkish state, and the end of occupation wars, as well as the fulfillment of the demands of the workers' movement, the oppressed Kurdish nation, and all the oppressed.
Let us strengthen the international anti-fascist and anti-imperialist united front and the united struggle of the working class and the broad masses of the people!
