Statement: Trump President of the United States
On January 20, 2025 trump has officially become the President of the United States. Immediately after assuming office, he made several announcements and began taking actions that suggest he will continue to adopt more aggressive imperialist and fascist policies during his presidency. These actions also raise the possibility of creating new tensions and conflicts worldwide. In this context, the need to speak out against such policies, to defend peace and democracy, and to oppose war on a global level has become more urgent than ever before. It is reasonable to expect that such opposition will continue to emerge due to his imperialist and fascist policies, ultimately leading to his defeat.
It is no secret that the policies he is attempting to advance now are not new. He has been promoting such ideas since the election campaign. Nevertheless, he received significant support from the American people and won the election by a landslide. He expressed these ideas during his inauguration, where his views were greeted with loud applause. It seems that American public opinion has been heavily influenced by his imperialist and fascist ideas, much like how the German people were swayed by Hitler's racist and fascist ideology, which resulted in great suffering for both the world and the German people themselves. Later, the German people launched a heroic resistance against his policies and actions. In fact, the ideas that Trump has put forward do not reflect the will of the American people but rather the interests of the country's big capitalists. Therefore, the opposition or movement of the American people against such policies is an inevitable necessity.
Trump’s main slogan is "America First." Just as Hitler attempted to rally the people of Germany by promoting the idea that the German race was the best in the world, Trump has sought to gain the support of the American people by championing the slogan "America First" and advancing his imperialist and fascist policies.
To make America first, Trump has announced several plans from geographical, political, strategic, and economic perspectives. He has declared that Canada, an independent and sovereign nation much larger than the United States, should be incorporated into the U.S. Additionally, he has stated that he plans to occupy Greenland, the world’s largest and most mineral-rich island, and seize control of the Panama Canal. He has also proposed renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. With these policies, the geographical area of the United States would expand significantly. The American people have strongly supported Trump’s plan to make America great in this way. However, Trump and his supporters appear to have overlooked the fact that these policies will generate widespread dissatisfaction with the U.S. globally, causing more harm than good.
Trump also plans to withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate change as soon as he takes office and to leave the World Health Organization. This demonstrates his profound irresponsibility. His decision to withdraw from climate change responsibilities, particularly following the massive fire in Los Angeles, underscores his extreme neglect. Furthermore, his announcement to pull out of the World Health Organization during a time of global epidemics, like the COVID-19 pandemic, reveals his inhumane attitude.
Trump has also declared that illegal immigrants will be expelled from the United States or prevented from entering the country. It is estimated that over 10 million such immigrants currently reside in the U.S. As a result, large-scale efforts to arrest and deport foreign immigrants have already begun. This policy is a response to the growing economic crisis and unemployment in the United States. With rising economic instability, Trump aims to reduce unemployment by removing immigrants from the country.
In developed capitalist countries, including the United States, many people from less developed or developing countries migrate there for employment. However, experience shows that this is not a permanent solution to their problems. Just as immigrants are now being expelled from the U.S., they will also face expulsion from other countries. In the past, people could easily migrate to European countries, but now such opportunities have become more limited. Growing economic crises and unemployment in various European countries are leading to increased opposition to foreign immigrants. Even in India, Nepalis can no longer find work as easily as before. In the Arabian Gulf, Nepali workers face many injustices and restrictions due to the region's medieval and autocratic regimes. As a result, employment opportunities in these areas are becoming increasingly scarce. The escalating wars in different parts of the world also contribute to the continuous displacement of people fleeing those conflicts.
In fact, the problems faced by immigrants in the U.S. reflect a broader global issue. A permanent solution lies in striving for sustainable development in immigrants' home countries. This task, however, is not easy. It can only be achieved by struggling against unjust systems and irresponsible, anti-people governments in various countries. Therefore, immigrants worldwide need to focus on this long-term historical necessity. Nepalis living abroad must recognize that their own country holds the key to resolving their problems through sustainable development.
Trump has also announced plans to end birthright citizenship for immigrants living in the U.S. However, this right is granted by the U.S. Constitution. A case has been filed against this decision in the U.S. Supreme Court, which has issued a stay order against Trump's announcement. The final ruling will likely be made in the coming days.
During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly stated that he was against war and in favor of peace. He even claimed that he would end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of becoming president. However, it is now clear that this was merely election rhetoric. The possibility of tension, unrest, and conflict arising throughout North America due to his views on Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal is growing. This tension will not be limited to North America but is likely to spread globally.
Trump has now adopted an aggressive policy toward China. This increases the likelihood of an immediate confrontation between the U.S. and China over issues related to the Panama Canal, the South China Sea, Taiwan, and trade.
It remains to be seen how U.S. policy on Tibet will evolve under Trump, particularly regarding the MCC or the Dalai Lama issue. In any case, his decision to call a Quad meeting indicates an effort to encircle China. This move is likely to make global politics more turbulent and war-oriented.
Although Trump once promised to end the war in Ukraine quickly, he has now begun discussing measures such as threatening Russia and imposing sanctions to force a ceasefire. Trump's policy is unlikely to bring a swift end to the war in Ukraine. Instead, the war may spread to NATO countries. He seems to be trying to emulate Biden’s policy of continuing the war in Ukraine and extending it across the European continent. Additionally, he is urging NATO countries to increase their defense spending from two percent to five percent of their national income, or else the U.S. will withdraw from NATO. His policies are likely to increase tensions between the U.S. and NATO.
The U.S. seeks to dominate Asia by strengthening Israel, whose establishment is based on the oppression of the Palestinian people. As a result, a long-term liberation movement, like the Palestinian struggle, has emerged in Central Asia, which the U.S. will never be able to defeat. U.S. policy on Israel and Palestine has generated widespread anger and dissatisfaction throughout Central Asia. A serious contradiction with Iran has also developed. Against this backdrop, it is clear that the U.S.'s position in Asia will weaken rather than strengthen.
Trump represents America's big capitalists, or monopoly capitalism. His primary concern is that the U.S. is entering a severe economic crisis, with its trade, the dollar, and its international reputation being devalued. Behind his "America First" slogan lies an emphasis on protecting American monopoly capitalism and maintaining its dominance in the world. To achieve this, he has focused on reducing foreign production entering the U.S. and imposed higher taxes on imported goods. This policy will likely lead to a trade cold war with various countries.
It is clear that Trump's policies will have a profound impact on both America and the world. However, what needs to be understood is that ultimately, his policies or his role will not be decisive. Many forces worldwide will rise up against him, and the U.S. will have to compete fiercely with them. Even within America, voices will be raised against him, and movements will emerge. While he currently holds a majority in both the House and Senate, this majority will not last forever. Opposition to his decrees will likely grow in Congress as well. Petitions against him will be filed in U.S. courts, and the judiciary will begin to curb his fascist actions. Despite initial public support following his victory, domestic opinion in the U.S. will likely turn against him due to his fascist policies. Trump aims to increase the exploitation of working-class Americans for the benefit of the big capitalists while establishing global dominance. Through these policies, contradictions between American imperialism and the oppressed nations and peoples of the world will continue to grow. The ultimate result will be the defeat of imperialism and the triumph of peace and democracy.
The policies Trump has implemented since becoming president, and the potential consequences for the world, are still in their early stages. It is likely that his imperialist and fascist policies will continue to take shape, leading to serious repercussions for both the U.S. and the world. There is no doubt that his presidency will be extremely unfortunate for both America and the world. The "America First" slogan he promotes serves the interests of America’s big capitalists, but in the end, even they will not benefit from his policies, as the root cause of capitalism’s destruction lies within its own nature. As a result, the steps Trump takes to serve the big capitalists will inevitably lead to greater global dissatisfaction and opposition to American imperialism, weakening its position both globally and domestically.
